The Food and Agriculture Organization

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations ( FAO ) is a specialised agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries , FAO acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and debate policy . FAO is also a source of knowledge and information , and helps developing countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture , forestry and fisheries practices , ensuring good nutrition and food security for all.

In 1945, FAO is established in Quebec City , Canada. It's headquartered in Rome, Italy . As of May 2017, FAO has 194 member states, along with the European Union ( a “member organization “) , and two associate members.

Achieving food security for all is at the heart of FAO’S efforts - to make sure people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives.

The three main goals of FAO are : the eradication of hunger, food insecu rity and malnutrition; the elimination of poverty and the driving forward of economic and social progress for all; and , the sustainable management and utilization of natural resources , including land , water , air ,climate and genetic resources for the benefit of present and future generations.
