National Pork Board

The mission of the National Pork Board is to serve as a catalyst that unites pig farmers with key stakeholders focused on building a bright future for the pork industry through research, promotion and education. Established in 1985, the NPB represents all 63,000 U.S. pig farmers and has responsibility for Checkoff-funded research, promotion and consumer information projects and for communicating with pig farmers and the public. Through a legislated national Pork Checkoff, pig farmers invest $0.40 for each $100 value of hogs sold. Importers of pork products contribute a like amount, based on a formula.

The Pork Checkoff funds national and state programs in advertising and promotion in both domestic and export markets as well as general consumer information. Additionally, the Pork Checkoff funds science and technology research to improve production, swine health, pork safety, pig welfare, and sustainability and environmental management. The resulting scientific information is used to create education and outreach materials as well as comprehensive assurance programs for U.S. pig farmers.
