Dr Faith Burden is the Director of Research and Operational Support for The Donkey Sanctuary. She is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and is a globally recognised expert on the health and welfare of donkeys and mules. Faith’s particular research interests focus on donkey and mule nutrition and parasitology and she has active collaborations with universities worldwide. Current research programmes focus on understanding the microbiome of the donkey, management of endoparasites in large herds of donkeys and developing welfare assessment techniques for donkeys and mules. She has worked with industry to design and produce donkey feeds and with farmers to provide cost effective, high welfare husbandry systems. With a keen focus on education Faith has lectured across the globe on donkey care and welfare and is skilled at translating cutting edge science in to positive, practical change for animals and humans. She has worked at national and international levels to influence and develop policy and guidelines to promote animal welfare, in particular for equids. Faith leads the research and
