Mrs. Daniela Battaglia, FAO Officer: "Beijing Consensus" is important for solving animal welfare issues

        On September 19-20th 2019, “3rd World Conference on Farm Animal Welfare” was held in Qingdao. The conference was jointly co-hosted by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and China Association for the Promotion of International Agricultural Cooperation (CAPIAC). The conference featured “Consumer-driven Quality Improvement: Assuring Animal and Human Health”. Mrs. Daniela Battaglia, FAO Animal Production Officer, shared about the specific actions to implement "Beijing Consensus" in the next five years.

         During 2nd World Conference on Farm Animal Welfare, Beijing Consensus had been jointly advocated and signed by 16 organizations. It embodied the wisdom and strength of authoritative animal welfare organizations, aiming to improve global animal welfare and human health and to promote environment-friendly development. After one year of work, "Beijing Consensus" had been gradually implemented. Daniela Battaglia affirmed the contribution of China Association for the Promotion of International Agricultural Cooperation in promoting "Beijing Consensus", and pointed out that this consensus could solve animal welfare issues comprehensively. Daniela Battaglia said that the current farm animal welfare had made great progress in the world, but there were also some problems, such as African swine fever, a common challenge facing global agricultural production. This required the cooperation of various agencies worldwide to cope with the challenges, and "Beijing Consensus" brought everyone together to take common actions, which was of great significance for promoting farm animal welfare progress in the world.
