Mr. Zhai Huqu, President of China Association for the Promotion of International Agricultural Cooperation: Further promote animal welfare development

          On September 19th 2019, “3rd World Conference on Farm Animal Welfare” was held in Qingdao. The conference featured “Consumer-driven Quality Improvement: Assuring Animal and Human Health”.

       Mr. Zhai Huqu said that animal welfare was a symbol of the progress of human civilization and was a symbol of the overall improvement of human welfare. It was also related to the international reputation of a nation. Farm animal welfare was closely related to human health. Animal welfare-friendly products were healthy and of good quality, which had been recognized by more and more consumers. The driving from end-users would greatly promote the development of animal welfare industry chain. Consumers' perceptions, choices, participation in experiencing welfare-friendly products, were extremely important for improving animal welfare, and were conducive to promoting the sustainable development of the consumer-end industry.

       Mr. Zhai Huqu emphasized the importance of improving animal welfare, making safer products, making better environment and making more sustainable agriculture. He said that animal welfare played an important role in supporting sustainable agricultural development, promoting food security and nutrition. World Conference on Farm Animal Welfare had been held for three consecutive years. After three years, the conference had become a brand conference of China's animal husbandry and one of the most important international animal welfare conferences. It had become a most important international animal welfare exchange platform. China was the world's largest producer and consumer of pork, and the largest poultry producer. The Chinese government attached great importance to farm animal welfare development. In the future, we would align with the objective requirements of economic and social development and vigorously promote work on animal welfare in China.

       Mr. Zhai Huqu appealed that, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of P.R. China, let us work together to promote animal welfare and to contribute to our nation’s development. Let’s join hands and make efforts for the fair trade of global animal husbandry, animal health and welfare and a better future of humanity.
