Paul Littlefair

Paul Littlefair joinined the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) in 1998 . In 2012 he was promoted to Head of International, overseeing strategies for around twenty countries in Europe, Asia and Africa. Paul played a leading role in organising China‘s earliest international animal welfare conferences, notably the 2005 ‘International Forum on Animal Welfare & Meat Safety’  with the Ministry of Commerce’s Meat Hygiene journal. In 2008 a two-day conference ‘The Importance of Farm Animal Welfare Science to Sustainable Agriculture’ was hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences’ Rural Development Institute. In 2009 a series of five seminars, under the titles ‘The Benefits of Animal Health and Welfare for the Food Industry’ and  ‘The Importance of Animal Welfare for the Future addressed audiences of retailers, producers, agriculture university lecturers and students and research institute staff. In other fields Paul works with the Chinese Association of Laboratory Animal Sciences to promote lab animal welfare and ethical review. Since 2008 he has been closely involved with leading Chinese policy advisers and academics on drafting China’s first ever anti-cruelty legislation. He also heads a long-term RSPCA animal welfare education partnership with China’s Ecological Experience Education programme.Paul is an Honorary Fellow of the College of Teaching and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology.
