Sandra Edwards

Professor Sandra Edwards is Emerita Professor of Agriculture at Newcastle University and a pig specialist with international recognition. Previously, she was Chair of Agriculture at Newcastle University. She is author or co-author of 250+ peer reviewed papers (H-index: 51), and a member of the Animal Health and Welfare panel of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Her research focuses on the development of pig systems that enhance animal health and welfare, with particular focus on the consequences of different husbandry practices for the development of pig pathologies using experimental and epidemiological approaches, the role of neonatal and maternal characteristics on piglet survival and the early detection of pig diseases. She has experience in coordinating R&D projects at national and EU level and her work has received several national and international prizes, including the Leroy Award from EAAP.
